Homemade Hair Mask

If your bad hair days last an entire weekend, your hair is not only screaming for attention but is also in large need of some tender loving care. Don't wait for the weekend to treat damaged hair. There are simple, effective ways (which are not time-consuming) to care for your hair through the week. They are also quite inexpensive and no, you don't have to go hunting for some exotic ingredients either. The solution to your bad hair day lies in your kitchen.

Hair masks are easy to make and apply. All you need is a little time and patience.

Egg mask
1. Beat two eggs alongwith their yolks with two tablespoons of water.
2. Massage the concoction into clean, damp hair.
3. Keep it on for ten to fifteen minutes and wash it off with a mild shampoo.

Going bananas
1. Mash one banana and mix it well with one beaten egg, three tablespoons honey, three tablespoons milk and five tablespoons olive oil.
2. Apply on hair and wash off with a gentle shampoo after 15 to 30 minutes depending on the extent of hair damage.

Yo yogurt!
1. Remove the yolk from an egg and beat the egg white till it is nice and frothy.
2. Add six tablespoons of yogurt to the potion.
Massage it into hair and wait 15 to 30 minutes for the magic to unveil.
3. Wash out with a mild shampoo.

Milk and honey mask
1. All you need to do is mix a tablespoon of honey with a cup of full fat milk.
2. Apply evenly on hair.
3. Wash off with a mild shampoo after 15 minutes.

Fenugreek mask
1. You need to keep fenugreek seeds overnight in a little water, enough to soak them not drown them.
2. Grind the seeds to a fine paste the next morning and apply it to your hair.
3. Wash it out with a mild shampoo after 15 to 20 minutes.

Olive and egg mask
1. Whisk five tablespoons of olive oil and two eggs to a foamy mixture.
2. Massage it in your hair.
3. Cover your head with a shower cap and leave it on for at least 30 minutes for the oil to penetrate into your hair.
4. Wash off with a gentle shampoo.

Banana and almond mask
1. Add a few drops of almond oil to one mashed ripe banana.
2. Mix it well and massage it thoroughly into hair.
3. Wash it off with a mild shampoo after 15 to 30 minutes.

North Karnataka Pad Recipe by Sanjana V

North Karnataka Pad Recipe ( Salty Appam )

Hi All,

Today I am going to share this specialty breakfast of North Karnataka known as "Pad" . It’s consumes less time unlike dosa/idli because  you need to prepare  sambhar or potato subzi , coconut chutney  but with this dish you just need  the coconut chutney.  And for this dish you need to have the Pad tawa/maker.
Ingredients for Pad :

Rice – 2 cups

Urad daal – 1 cup

Fenugreek seeds (mente/ methi  seeds) – 1 tspn

Poha – ½ cup (optional )

Salt ( according to taste )

1 Soak all the above ingredients for 6-8 hours or overnight except poha .

2. Before grinding it, soak poha for 15 mins and grind altogether to a smooth batter. Allow the batter to ferment for 6-8hrs or overnight .

3. Add salt and water to this mixture. Heat the pad tawa and drizzle little oil in it and pour the batter into each section. ( Optional - In this step you can add chopped onion, green chillies, chopped cilantro, curry leaves and turmeric to the batter and make the pads)

4. Wait for 2 minutes   and flip them. Now the golden  brown  round pads are ready.

5.  Serve it with the coconut  chutney.

Enjoy !!!

Henna design by Sugandha.A

Hello all....
Today I am going to discuss about Henna art..
Henna also called as Mehendi is considered very sacred and auspicious in many Asian countries.
Henna is applied in the form of designs or tattoo on hands, legs, arms .. On various occasions such as Wedding , Karvachauth, Diwali, Eid....ladies apply mehendi on their hands for the celebrations..I just Love mehendi...I remember when I was in school our school didnt allow us to put mehendi on our hands...so once I passed my 10th I used to apply mehendi after every 15 days...but obviously after a while my madness came under control..hihihihi

I did a henna art tutorial on my youtube channel Enjoycooking1...which I wanted to share with you all...
so here is the video....

 sharing few pics as well

Healthy Comfort Food : Chakolya !! by Tanvi

Hello everyone,

As I am a firm believer of the saying..."you are what you eat" , I try to eat healthy food. Today I want to share a very healthy, simple and easy to make recipe with you. It's called " Chakolya / Varanfal" . It is a very popular dish in Maharashtra .

Serves : 2 - 3 persons

Ingredients :

For Chakolya ( diamond shaped dough pieces) :
3/4 cup wheat flour ( ata)
1 tsp oil
1/2 tsp salt

For Dal/ Amati :
1 cup boiled toor dal
2 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
A pinch of asafoetida ( hing)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
5-6 curry leaves
1 dry red chilly
tsp garam masala
1 tsp chilly powder
water as needed.
sugar or grated jaggery 1tsp  (optional)
salt as per taste
desi ghee / clarified butter

You can put any vegetables : I prefer the following :
1/2 medium sized onion chopped finely
1 tomato chopped
2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
1/2 cup chopped boiled carrots
1 cup fresh methi / dill leaves finely chopped

Procedure:
1) Pressure cook dal until tender. Mash it a little.
2) Mix wheat flour, 1/2 tsp salt and 1tsp oil. Add water as needed and knead it to a dough.
3) Take a medium size pan, heat the oil in the pan on medium heat. Then add mustard seeds; let them splutter ,add cumin seeds, asafetida ,curry leaves, turmeric powder and dry red chilly. Give it a mix.
4) Add chopped onion, sauté it till it become translucent, then add garlic and sauté it.
5) Add tomato and cook it for a minute. Add carrots & give it a mix then add toor dal. Add garam masala, chilly powder, salt and jaggery. Now add water almost 2-3cups and let it boil. You need to make dal thin as once you put the dough pieces it will thicken.
6) While the dal (Amati) is boiling on medium heat, divide dough into 3 equal parts and make their balls.Take a dough ball and roll it approximately 6 inches. Cut it into 1 inch pieces. Repeat the same procedure with the remaining 2 dough balls and put the pieces in the boiling dal (Amati). Cook it for 5-8 mins.

7) Serve hot by garnishing it with chopped cilantro( coriander leaves) and a dollop of pure desi ghee.
Yumm...yummmmm.

This dish is full of nutritions as it has proteins from dal, carbs from Chakolya or pasta, fiber from vegetables.

It is instant hit with kids when you put pasta instead of wheat dough pieces and you are happy that they are eating veggies ;)

Let us know if you like it or is there any variation that you recommend when you prepare this dish.
